OSX.ElectrumStealer is Malwarebytes’ detection name for a Trojan aimed at stealing cryptocurrency from systems running MacOS.

Type of infection

OSX.ElectrumStealer is a trojanized Electrum Wallet that tries to steal cryptocurrencies from the infected systems. OSX.ElectrumStealer is spread sending an error message in the form of a prompt for a “required update” to the nodes connected to the threat actors server(s) on the Electrum network.

Malicious behavior

Victims may have seen and followed this, or a similar, fake prompt about a required update.
