PUP.Optional.BitCleaner
ThreatDown is now the name of the Malwarebytes line of business products. References to Malwarebytes below reflect the amazing technology used to first identify the threat.
Short bio
PUP.Optional.BitCleaner is Malwarebytes’ detection name for a potentially unwanted program called BitCleaner targeting Windows systems.
Type of infection
PUP.Optional.BitCleaner is a so-called system optimizer. These so-called “system optimizers” use exaggerated scan results or sometimes even intentional false positives to convince users that their systems have problems. Then they try to sell you their software, claiming it will remove these problems. PUP.Optional.BitCleaner is usually installed by users themselves under false pretences.
Protection
Malwarebytes protects users by blocking the installer and removing the application, which offers users the chance to make an informed choice.
