Virus.M0yv

ThreatDown is now the name of the Malwarebytes line of business products. References to Malwarebytes below reflect the amazing technology used to first identify the threat.

Short bio

Virus.M0yv is Malwarebytes’ detection name for a file-infector that spreads on systems and through networks by infecting other executable files.

Type of infection

Virus.M0yv can change legitimate files into infected files. The virus was reportedly developed by the Maze ransomware group.

Aftermath

After removal of the infected files the system may be missing vital files for programs to run, which often makes a re-format of the system necessary. All removable drives that have been used on an infected system should be checked for the presence of the virus as well.
